A Marrickville community choir called ‘Warren’, their partners and children are packing their bags to travel seven hours to Warren on Friday.
‘Warren’ will meet up and sing with the town’s local choir ‘Hot Flats’.
The Where’s Warren? tour runs from October 16 to 18.
The two choirs have organised workshops where they will learn new songs as well as share existing repertoire.
The highlight of the trip will be a camp oven dinner and Saturday concert featuring the two choirs individually and combined.
The Marrickville choir has made special tour T-shirts to celebrate the event.
‘Warren’ is a community choir established by a group of parents at Ferncourt Public School in Marrickville South near the Cooks River.
The choir took its name from the local area in South Marrickville called ‘The Warren’, after an 1860s gothic mansion built on the massive estate.
‘Warren’s’ choir director Fiona Cook said the choir’s standing joke about making a trip to visit Warren took an interesting turn when they found out the town of Warren had a choir too.
“When I made contact with Katie (director) and Katie (manager) from ‘Hot Flats’ we agreed that the idea of a visit sounded exciting and momentum grew for the trip,” Ms Cook said.
“There is nothing like music to unite people. Our choir has a great sense of community and I’m sure we will more than double it when we link up with Hot Flats.
“The prospect of bringing our two choirs together, from such diverse communities, really appeals. We like to have fun and we’re very much looking forward to the new experience.”
Hot Flats choir director Katie Sinclair said the singers were really excited about the visit from the ‘Warren’ choir.
“We are looking forward to getting like-minded people together to enjoy and celebrate the joy of singing in a choir. I am sure they will have a great time exploring the Warren area and experiencing the country hospitality.”
