O’Keefe to host Matrons Gala Ball

28 May, 2009 10:13 AM
One of Australia’s favourite sporting heroes, Kerry O’Keefe is hosting the 2009 Macquarie Matrons Gala Ball.

The former test cricketer, now a commentator with ABC radio, is well known for his quick and wicked humour and very distinctive laugh.

President of Macquarie Matrons Skye Rush said Kerry’s combination of hilarious sporting yarns and inspirational messages made him the perfect choice for MC, as it combined the fun and entertainment of the evening with the serious side of helping to raise money for Angel Flight Australia.

Plans for the event to be held at the Namoi Cotton Gin, Trangie on September 19 are well underway, and while the girls don’t want to give too much away they said to expect a few surprises at this year’s event.

Special guest Natalie Gruzlewski, Channel 9 presenter for Farmer Wants a Wife and Getaway will be in attendance, along with a few other surprise celebrity guests.

After having such an amazing time at the ‘07 Macquarie Matrons Ball, the Enormous Horns are back again in 2009. The Enormous Horns are a 10-piece all dancing all singing band from Sydney whose funky big band sound promises an exciting evening of dancing and fun.

Jazz swing band Champagne Charlie will feature early in the evening, setting the scene for the entertainment ahead.

The evening will feature a sophisticated electronic silent auction, which proved a huge hit with ball goers in 2007. Only a selected few key items will be auctioned ‘live’ on the night. Some highlights of the auction include a Nissan Tiida donated by Western Plains Automotive, a John Deere Lawnmower donated by Chesterfield and some fantastic weekend getaways including accommodation and live shows.

Keep an eye out for the girls selling raffle tickets over the next few months. The major prize is a trip for two to Honolulu including airfares and accommodation donated by Harvey World Travel, Hawaiian Airlines and Harveys Choice Holidays. Second prize is a five-burner stainless steel barbecue courtesy of Brennan’s Mitre 10 Home and Trade Dubbo and third prize is a handmade patchwork quilt from Cotton Country Quilters.

Without the generous support of local businesses, the event would not be possible and the Macquarie Matrons are extremely grateful for all the support they receive.
