Arielle Irving received the Grand Champion ribbon in the literary section at the recent Warren Show.
Arielle, a student at Warren Central School, was awarded a first place in the open section story and poem and equal first in the open section for a poem about The Macquarie River.
Other prize-winners included William Leadbeater with a second place for (section O, class 7) ‘two sentences minimum on any subject’ and Michael O’Connor (section O, class 9) was first in poem for Year 1. Edward Haumann was first with ‘two sentences’ (class 6), Lucy Gordon was highly commended and Hayley Sligar was second. Joseph Hamblin was awarded second places for his poem and story and Mathew Stanley won a first prize for his story. Lillian Whittaker was first in poetry and second in story.
St Mary’s Catholic School students were also successful with Georgie Martin second for picture with caption for kindergarten and Bella Noonan was highly commended.
Sarah Noonan was highly commended for two sentences minimum in Year 1 and Shakira Duncan was highly commended for her poem. A story any subject for Year 3 students resulted in a second prize for Abbey McCloskey and a highly commended award for Peter Nadin.
Abbey was also highly commended for her poem. Year 4 student Travis Leach received a highly commended for a ‘story on any subject’ and a first prize for a poem, with Claudia Clark highly commended. Annabelle Taylor (Year 6) was first in poem and highly commended in ‘a story on any subject’.
In the special Heritage Award open section essay or poem on ‘A trip to Warren Show 1879’, Annette Irving won first prize with Sally Falkiner second. In the open section for a poem on The Macquarie River equal first prize went to Arielle Irving and Shirley Todhunter with Annette Irving second. In the essay section ‘Over the Top’ or ‘No Holds Barred’ Philomena Simmons was first and Patricia Irving was second.
