Golf Club travelled to Payten Park to play Narromine’s Wanderers on an extremely hot Saturday afternoon.
Golf Club won an important toss and chose to bat first. They got off to a shaky start to be 3/28 in the 11th over. From this point Todd Whalan 55 and Matt Langby 26 put together a match winning partnership of 76 to resurrect the Golf Club innings.
Golf Club went through the next period of the game losing 6/39 which invited Wanderers back into the contest. An unbroken 10th wicket stand of 32 between Jeff Noonan 22 not out and Matt Ceeney 13 not out pushed the score to 9/175 off 39 overs.
An error by the scorers gave the Wanderers bowlers an early mark by one over and the 40th consequently was not bowled. Best with the ball for Wanderers was Aaron Clark with 3/21 off nine overs, an impressive display given the heat and being on synthetic.
Wayne Hughes claimed 4/39 off 10 overs while Trent Jacobson picked up the other two wickets.
In reply the Wanderers inning got off to a reasonable start which saw them at 2/33 off just eight overs and the run rate was well in hand.
From this stage though there was a steady flow of wickets that saw the Wanderers chances evaporate in the 40 plus temperatures of Saturday afternoon to be bowled out for 70 in the 21st over.
Golf Club used five bowlers and all were successful in the wicket column with Sean Robson 2/26, Matt Ceeney 2/12, Andrew McLeod 1/2, Tyron Thompson 1/0 and Dwayne Kent 3/29.
Wanderers were best served with the willow by Aaron Clark who was the shining light of the afternoon for that team top scoring with 23, while Brad Perry 14 and Sam Crook 12 were the only other batsmen into double figures.
