Match Report
Gular versus Curban.
Curban travelled to Gular on Saturday with the home team desperately needing a win to stay on track for a semi-final appearance.
Gular won the toss and elected to bat on a brand new synthetic wicket laid during the week. Chris Allport bowled Gular opener Ben Ryan to claim the first wicket on the new deck.
Jarred Graham and Brandon Hammond proceeded to see off the Curban opening bowlers but after Wes Lummis was brought into the attack, the Gular fortunes drastically changed.
Lummis picked up four quick wickets to have Gular in big trouble at 6 for 42 and an early finish looked likely. Gular captain Guy Allen had other ideas and with Zac Fuller providing support at the other end, the pair put on 59 for the seventh wicket before the partnership was broken in the 35th over.
Wes Lummis returned to claim his fifth wicket with Gular posting a respectable 9/121 after 40 overs. Lummis with 5/19 was the pick of the Curban bowlers while Chris Allport generated plenty of pace and grabbed two wickets for 12 off seven overs. Jarred Couley bowled six overs for a miserable 10 runs and was very unlucky not to have a claimed a couple of wickets because of some poor catching.
The Curban run chase didn’t get off to the best of starts with Curban 2/24 after seven overs. Jasen Carter picked up both wickets while Brandon Hammond was applying plenty of pace from the other end. Andrew Newstead joined Jarred Couley and together they put on 51 for the third wicket to steady the Curban innings.
The Gular bowlers never gave up, taking a further three wickets before Curban reached their total in the 32nd over for the loss of six wickets. Couley was the best of the Curban batsmen with 30 runs completing a fine match. Gular conceded 34 extras which is something needing to be addressed should they make the semi-finals. Zac Fuller, with 2/6 and Carter with 2/20 were the most successful bowlers for Gular.
