Gritty win beyond expectations

17 Feb, 2010 02:58 PM
Curban has wrapped up the minor premiership with one round to go following a gritty win over Town Services played at McGrane oval.

The game billed as the match of the round with first taking on second lived up to expectations with both teams having several opportunities to win.

The match between Biddon Toora and USC, third against fourth, was also a match where both teams had the ascendancy at different times before the defending premiers took the maximum points on offer.

In the final game of the round played at Gular, Coonamble gave the home team a hell of a fright before Gular managed to win by 10 runs and keep their semi finals chance alive.

This week’s round of matches will see the match of the round played at Tooraweenah as they host Town Services.

Both teams have a lot to play for with Toora needing the win to have a chance to stay alive while Town Services can ensure second position should they take the maximum points on offer.

Another critical game is the 40 over game between USC and Gular as well as their catch up 20/20 game, which needs to be completed by this weekend.

Gular needs to win at least one of these games to ensure a semi final spot while USC can finish second, third or fourth depending on the results of the weekend.

A couple of great games expected to finish the competition rounds. In the final game, which has no bearing on the semis, Curban will host Coonamble at McGrane.

With the final round due to be played this weekend, club secretaries are reminded that they need to get their batting and bowling statistics into the association secretary as soon as possible.
