The Gilgandra representative cricket side travelled to Nyngan on Sunday to take on the home team in round two of the SCG Country Plate competition.
A blend of youth and experience took to the field as Gilgandra won the toss and decided to send Nyngan in to bat.
This decision brought immediate success with Sam Holland ripping through the Nyngan opener with the very first ball of the innings to have Nyngan 1/0 after one delivery.
Brad Freeth was enjoying his first game in the Gilgandra colours and picked up his first wicket to have Nyngan two for 10 after four overs.
Gular duo Brandon Hammond and Mark White, both playing their first game for Gilgandra, took over from where the opening bowlers left off with Hammond in particular bowling a tight line and only conceding 11 runs while taking two wickets in his allotted six overs.
White was bowling with some serious pace and despite conceding a few wides, still managed to finish with 3/31 from his allotted six-over spell.
Chris Allport playing in only his second game for Gilgandra cleaned up the Nyngan tail to finish with 2/10 from four overs.
This was a terrific bowling performance from the youthful Gilgandra pace attack, with Nyngan all out for 102 in the 30th over.
The Gilgandra run chase could not have got off to a worse start with a case of deja vu as Gilgandra opener Ben Jenkins was dismissed first ball of the Gilgandra innings. Dave Johnson joined Jarred Couley and together they took the score to 35 before Couley was dismissed with the change of bowler.
Jasen Carter, another new addition to the Gilgandra side, joined Johnson and this pair took the team through to the luncheon interval with Gilgandra looking solid at 2/53.
The break for lunch did not do the Gilgandra team any favours as a succession of wickets tumbled to see Gil slip to a very vulnerable position of six for 79.
Chris Allport and Andrew Newstead then combined to take the Gilgandra side past the Nyngan total, with Allport unfortunately dismissed on the last ball of the day.
Best for the bat for Gilgandra was David Johnson with a well-made 34 while D Fairley with 3/39 from 10 overs was best with the ball for Nyngan.
It was a great result for the Gilgandra side which now goes on to play the winner between Bourke and Cobar on November 15.
It is not yet known where this game will be played but the Gilgandra team is Adam Hazelton, John McKay, Ben Jenkins, Jarred Couley, David Johnson, Jasen Carter, Wes Lummis, Brandon Hammond, Chris Allport, Brad Freeth, Sam Holland and Mark White.
Training will be the next
two Wednesdays for those who can make it starting at 4.30pm at McGrane nets.
In ABC Shield news, Gular continued its good form with a 77-run win over the home side Coonamble.
Gular made 156 with the bat with Jasen Carter and Brandon Hammond the standouts with 47 and 30 respectively. Veteran Les Turnbull bowled exceptionally well for Coonamble to take 5/23.
The Coonamble run chase finished on 79 with S Garnett and AJ Mylechrane both top-scoring with 19 runs with Ryan Milgate and Hammond taking three wickets apiece.
There will be no cricket for the next two weeks as we break for harvest.
