Round five of the ABC Shield took place during the weekend with both games being played in the cool of Friday night.
Two vastly different games with two similar results is probably the best way to describe this round of cricket. In the game played at McGrane, Gular proved too strong for Curban, winning the match by 18 runs after 80 overs of cricket was played. In contrast the match played at Warren saw Town Services dismiss last year’s premiers USC Marthaguy for a measly 45 runs, only to have USC bowl out Town Services for 35 runs and to win the game by 10 runs. Who said cricket was boring?
The Gilgandra Bowling Club best performances for the week were Simon McCutcheon (Curban) 50 runs, Jasen Carter (Gular) 40 and youngster Ryan Millgate (Gular) 29. In the bowling department several four-wicket hauls dominated including Dave Riley (Town Services) 4/3, Warren Lefebvre (USC Marthaguy) 4/7, Dave Robertson (USC Marthaguy) 4/13 and Mark White (Gular) also with 4/13.
This week’s round of matches will see the first round of the Twenty20 played which should be a new experience for most players involved.
In the games to be played at Warren, USC Marthaguy will play Coonamble, Curban versus Gulargambone, USC versus Curban and Coonamble versus Gular.
It is expected that these games played at Warren should provide a carnival atmosphere with a barbecue and bar operating and the last round of matches being played under lights. The relevant captains will be notified of the expected start time.
The remaining Twenty20 game will be played at Tooraweenah with Town Services making the trek out to the Warrumbungle foothills. This match will start at 3pm.
