 Town are minor premiers

Town are minor premiers

09 Feb, 2012 11:06 AM
The comeback is complete. After failing to reach the finals in a rain-ridden season last year Town has completed a rare turnaround to seal the minor premiership for the 2011/2012 ABC Shield Cricket Competition.

A washed-out game against USC/Marthaguy on the weekend was all it took to seal the deal as Town ended the competition in first place by six points.

Baradine put in a remarkable season in their rookie year, finishing second above USC/Marthaguy thanks to their victory over Curban on Saturday.

The fourth and final spot for this year’s post-season goes to Biddon/Tooraweenah who had a thrilling win over Gular in a winner-takes-all final-round clash.

With all places now accounted for the post season will commence this Saturday with Town Services playing Baradine on the McGrane Oval and Biddon/Toora travelling to Warren to take on USC.

Well done to Town and better luck next year for Gular and Curban, who narrowly missed out on the finals due to a close points table.

Twenty20 Grand Final

They say third time is a charm. Let’s hope so. After two washouts on two consecutive Fridays, the Twenty20 grand final between Town Services and USC/Marthaguy will now be held this Thursday at 6.30pm on the McGrane Oval.

The bar and canteen facilities will be up and running and hopefully we can see some fast-paced cricket action between two of the top teams in the competition.

With finals spots now sealed in the regular competition both teams will be able to focus solely on the task at hand which should produce some big scores. Come along and support the locals in the final Twenty20 match of the season.

Brewery Shield

The Gilgandra Brewery Shield team will take on Cobar at the McGrane this Sunday with the team as follows: A Freeth (captain), B Welsh, B Jenkin, T Wilson, B Hammond, L Mack, S Weldon, D Riley, T Semmler, M Vaughn, J Kilby and C Allport (12th man). The game is scheduled for a 10am start.

If players are unavailable please phone Paul on 0408 739 239.
