Two games of cricket were played in the ABC Shield with Town Services defeating Gular in the game played at McGrane.
Despite it being a 40-over match it seems remarkable that just last week in the Twenty20, both teams scored more runs in 20 overs and lost fewer wickets. Town Services won the toss and batted knocking up 120 runs with Nick Hazelton top scorer with 23 and Mark White doing most of the damage with the ball for Gular.
In reply, Gular could only manage 93 with Brett Ryan making 19 of those.
The Gilgandra Bowling Club best efforts for the week were once again dominated by the bowlers with three-wicket hauls to Adam Hazelton (Town) 3/15, Sam Holland 3/17 (Town) and Mark White (Gular) 3/28.
Biddon-Toora returned to the winner’s circle on Saturday courtesy of a resounding victory over Coonamble at Tooraweenah.
Winning the toss and batting Biddon-Toora were watchful until drinks being well placed at 2/88, when Dave Neeves fulfilled his long-held potential to unleash on the hapless Coonamble bowling amassing a quick-fire 81.
Cameron Morse had whipped up a quick 50 as well, but it was Neeves’s day as he hit fours to all points of the park with 52 of his runs coming from boundaries.
He was out as he loomed in on a maiden century with three overs still to be bowled.
Tim Underwood was the pick of the Coonamble bowlers picking up the very tidy figures of 5/25 from his eight overs. Curtis O’Connor 30 and Benn Jenkin 26 also contributed to the total.
In reply Coonamble lost two early wickets to be 2/7 and apart from a partnership between Les Turnbull (20) and L Ansell (33) either side of drinks the visitors were never in the hunt.
Wily swing bowler Mark Ferguson was moving freely as he snared 4/17 off five overs and was well supported by openers Jason ‘Slimline’ Marks and bowling all-rounder Curtis O’Connor who took 3/24 and 1/23 respectively.
This week’s matches will have all teams involved which hasn’t happened since the withdrawal of Buncha back in round three.
In what could be the match of the round, USC Marthaguy will take on Gular who will be desperate to end their losing trot having now lost three in a row.
This game is scheduled to be played at Gular but don’t be surprised if it gets played under lights at Warren. Curban will be taking to the road to play Coonamble at Coonamble while the final game will see Town Services host Biddon Toora at McGrane who will be hoping to reverse their Twenty20 loss to Town just two weeks ago.
