The Warren Sports Complex will be a busy place on November 21 and 22 as the Far West Academy of Sport hosts a squad education weekend.
The Academy 2010 netball trials will be part of the weekend’s activities. Netball NSW is sending Marg Corbett, a long-serving State junior coach, out to Warren for the weekend to assist local coaching staff with the squad selections. Marg helped establish the FWAS netball program in 1998 on behalf of Netball NSW.
On Saturday the golf squad will head to Dubbo for a morning on the practice fairway, followed by a round of golf in the afternoon with PGA golfer Eddie Emerson from Sydney.
On Sunday the event grows with the CRL Academy training, FWAS football squad training and the 2010 Golf and Lone Star squads undertaking their program induction.
Special guest lecturers will help the athletes with nutrition, strength and conditioning and running technique. The athletes will also be undertaking a series of fitness tests with sports science expert Rebecca Neale from the Sport and Recreation division of Communities NSW.
To top off the weekend, the FWAS will stage its first annual awards on Sunday. Awards will be presented to the 10 2009 Athlete of the Month winners, and each program coach will present an award for their best 2009 athlete in individual sports. Finally, the FWAS will name its 2009 Athlete of the Year.
We invite parents and friends of scholarship holders to attend the presentations, which will be held in Warren at 1.30pm on November 22. For further information about the netball trials or sports lecture times, which we welcome local coaches to attend, please call the FWAS office on 6847 3638.
