 Cotton Cup fever grows

Cotton Cup fever grows

05 Nov, 2009 09:44 AM
The Warren Jockey Club is gearing up for the social event of the year, with thousands expected to pack the racecourse on Saturday for the annual Australian Cotton Cup.

The first race will be at approximately 11am. The race meeting has a seven-race TAB program and full betting facilities including the TAB tote van.

After the great success of the fashion parade in the past three years, the Queensland Cotton Fashion Parade will feature this year with stores from Dubbo, Narromine and Parkes showcasing a great variety of racing, evening and bridal wear.

The popular parade is set to start at 4pm and should be a great show.

Luncheon will once again be served on the hill overlooking the racecourse with the compliments of the Macquarie Cotton Growers Association.

This year the Warren Playgroup will be serving the luncheon to all the racegoers on the hill.

Warren Central School and St Mary’s Primary School are combining as caterers and the menu will include salad boxes, wraps and baguettes.

Security arrangements are again in place and will be similar to last year. Every person entering the racecourse will be issued with a wristband at the gate. This must be worn at all times with two distinct colours making it easier to identify under-age drinkers. Anyone not wearing a wristband will have to go back to the gate and pay, or leave the racecourse.

Warren Shire Council has made the car park an alcohol-free zone and on-the-spot fines will be issued to those found drinking in the car park area.

The Cotton Cup committee has decided to have live entertainment from 5pm until close at 9pm.

The Polypipes will entertain at what should be a very enjoyable night function. Gates will close at 6pm with strictly no entry permitted after this time.

The festivities will kick off at Warren Golf Club on Friday night with the calcutta starting at 7pm. The Golf Club will provide nibblies and Benny Ho’s restaurant will be open. The Golf Club will run a free jukebox after the auction is finished and also on the Saturday night after the Cotton Cup.

The committee looks forward to catching up with you on what should be a great day of racing.
