Barwon MP Kevin Humphries recently attended Racing NSW’s Country Racing 2008-2009 Awards as guest of Louth Turf Club.
Other clubs represented at the Randwick Function Centre were Warren, Cobar, Coonamble, Lightning Ridge, Carinda, Moree, Garah and Tottenham.
“The awards highlighted the importance of country racing in bringing communities and visitors together to celebrate, socialise and participate,” said Mr Humphries. “Racing is big business across the State with our region exceptionally strong, particularly across the picnic race circuit.
“Our clubs are characterised by the number of volunteers who give up their time to make these events happen.”
Warren and Lightning Ridge were finalists in the Outstanding Achievement Award, which was won by Forster- Tuncurry.
“Bob Ridge from Enngonia received a special award acknowledging his family’s contribution to country racing. At 82, Bob has been a highly successful owner, trainer, advocate and administrator in the country racing industry.
“Louth won the Community Race Club Award and were well represented on the night. Each year the 38 residents of Louth welcome more than 5000 visitors for their annual race, with the Darling River Village hosting many of these guests. Carinda and Cobar were also finalists in this award.”
