Mighty Midgets produce action-packed football

16 Jul, 2009 09:26 AM
The Warren Polocrosse Mighty Midget U7s games at Dubbo on Saturday were action packed.

Will Fenton had some very big runs and not a worry in the world as he spun his headgear on one finger. Sis Kennedy also showed some silky skills, while Tom Patterson was an absolute workhorse in defence and Aiden Bermingham was powerful for his size. Blake Robertson made a few beautiful tackles, Victor Kennedy was all over the place, while Johno Baker was great in defence and also had good runs.

Cooper Hunt was unstoppable as he crashed through the defence to score. Earl Greenaway was welcomed back after a couple of week’s lay-off and Lachie Marks also played well and at one stage scored a brilliant try.

The U7s had two games of footy in the Dubbo Gala Day and two pearlers, well done.

The mighty SPAR Supermarket U8s also had two fabulous games on the day.

Ben Martin was at it again, stopping, clicking heels and away, Luke Darcy charged onto the ball and Connor Williams continued to be elusive.

Campbell Woolnough had some pretty-to-watch super runs. With Aron Patterson out due to injury (after falling off the scoreboard at another match and breaking his foot), it was up to Kyle McClenahan to step up, and that he did.

Jessie Toomey had another good fast game and Earl Greenaway also played with the U8s and had a great game.

Sis Kennedy also made her debut in the U8s and played a couple of blinders. Well done.

The never-say-die U9s also competed in the Gala Day with some good games.

Will Donnelly got amongst the action when he filled in at dummy half.

Ollie Webb played pivot, directed the side well and had a couple of good runs. Evander Wilson played a blinder with no self-preservation and Jack Taylor had a couple of damaging runs.

Hugh Maxey maxed out in defence saving a few certain four pointers and Will Fuller gave it everything he had.

Tom Ramsay had a couple of good runs and was hard to catch, while Campbell Woolnough showed up the PCYC defence when he added a slice of magic to score.

Jessie Toomey saved a couple of tries with sheer speed, while Ben Martin confused the opposition and was unlucky not to score. Well done kids, great game.

The Frank Cross Tyres U10s were up next looking to make it two from two after their success in Nyngan last week.

Things didn’t go to plan as Dubbo Eastridge planted the first four-pointer with the conversion making it 6-0.

Owen Kennedy was rewarded with a couple of tries and Ben Fisk at pivot ran the ball and also scored.

Daniel Stanley kept busy setting up tries, had some brilliant runs and scored a couple of tries himself.

Evander Wilson had the same effect while new-found dummy half Blake Andrews also tackled everything that moved.

The boys raced out quickly to a handy lead with Jack Taylor also pitching in with a try. Will Fuller gave his all and Bailey Freese continues to get better and better each game.

Other U9s that backed up on Saturday to help out were Ollie Webb and Tom Ramsay.

Hugh Maxey topped of a solid game with another four-pointer. With conversions to Will Fuller, Blake Andrews, Jack Taylor and Evander Wilson the Warren boys ran out handsome winners 40-16, well done.

With the mighty Supa IGA U11s having the bye, that was the end of the Warren bombardment for the day. This week and weekend the kids will have off because of school holidays but it is back to business in the second week of the school holidays as we hopefully see both of our competition teams in the semi-finals.

Our first game back will be a home game coinciding with the seniors and the much-anticipated NSW Country versus Queensland Country game.
